Distraction Magazine is the University of Miami’s premier lifestyle magazine. During my senior year at UM, I served as Editor-and-Chief and created the four issues featured here. As editor, I was responsible for managing a staff of over 50 people, creating the budgets, handling ad sales and seeing that every story, headline, design, photo and caption is conceptualized, executed and sent to print without a blemish. I was responsible for brainstorming all the photo and design concepts with my core team to establish the direction we want to take every page of the magazine, and then organizing and attending studio days and shoots for us to bring our ideas to life. My core team and I were meticulous in investing ourselves in every aspect of the magazine, and always challenged ourselves to do the boldest possible thing – be it through wasabi typography or making the presidential candidates faces out of food or ordering 50 designed custom condoms for a cover. Distraction allowed me to take both a big picture role and a hands-on one, and showed me how we can always redefine what goes inside a college magazine.
